Quick answer
From Niedzica on Lake Czorsztyn, most attractions in Pieniny and Spisz are within 15-25 km and 20-40 minutes' drive. Dunajec Castle and the dam are on the doorstep (up to 1 km), the Dunajec rafting start is about 15 km away, Three Crowns and the trails up Sokolica are about 20 km, thermal baths in Białka and Bukowina are roughly 20 km away, and Czorsztyn-Ski on Wdżar is about 15 km. Zakopane is 45 km and roughly an hour's drive.
Why you need a distance map
Niedzica is exceptionally well-positioned centrally. From one place on Lake Czorsztyn, you're close to three completely different worlds: the Pieniny with its rafting and Three Crowns, the Tatra thermal baths and ski slopes, and the Slovak side of the border. This short map helps you plan your day so you don't waste time on unnecessary driving, because distances here are genuinely small.
All distances are measured from the resort on Lake Czorsztyn in Niedzica, that is, around Dunajec Castle and the dam. This is a good reference point, because most accommodation in Niedzica-Zamek lies close together, and drivers navigate to the castle area anyway, not to the village centre higher up.
How to read travel times
The times given are approximate and assume driving outside peak season. In July and August and during school holidays, allow extra time, because narrow passages (Nowy Targ, the road above the lake, car parks at the rafting start) get congested. Roads in Pieniny and Spisz can be winding and single-lane, so you rarely manage to drive fast, even when your destination is only a dozen kilometres away.

On foot or by bike
The lake shore and the start of the Velo Czorsztyn trail are about 300 m from the resort, so you can reach the beach, harbour and cycling loop around the reservoir on foot or by bike, without getting in the car. These distances are one of the main advantages of the location – everything is close by, and in the evening you return to your own cottage with a pool and sauna.
Pieniny and Dunajec rafting (12-25 km)
This is the heart of the region and most guests come specifically for it. Everything fits within a radius of roughly fifteen to twenty-five kilometres.
Dunajec Rafting
Rafts depart from the landing in Sromowce Wyżne-Kąty, about 15 km from Niedzica, that's less than half an hour's drive. Since 1934, the rafting has been run by the Polish Association of Pieniny Rafters. It's worth setting out in the morning, because this is the most popular Pieniny attraction and queues can be long.
Three Crowns and Sokolica
The most famous peaks of Pieniny National Park – the oldest national park in Poland (1932) – lie about 20 km from the resort. The highest point of Three Crowns, Okrąglica (982 m a.s.l.), has a viewing platform, and Sokolica (747 m a.s.l.) is renowned for its relict pine growing on a rocky ridge. The drive takes 30-40 minutes, as the route goes the long way round the Dunajec gorge.
Which side to start from
The most common starting points are Sromowce Niżne (from the Three Crowns side) and Krościenko nad Dunajcem and Szczawnica (from the Sokolica side). Your choice depends on which part of the gorge you want to see and where you plan to park.
Szczawnica and Red Monastery
The spa town of Szczawnica lies about 25 km from Niedzica and is a natural destination for a hiking trek through the gorge or the end point of a rafting trip. On the Slovak side, about 12 km from the resort, you'll find the Red Monastery – a former Carthusian monastery, from where you can also set out on Slovak rafting through the Dunajec Gorge.
Thermal baths and skiing (15-20 km)
Thermal pools
You have two major thermal complexes about 20 km from Niedzica. Terma Bania in Białka Tatrzańska and Termy Bukovina in Bukowina Tatrzańska are only a few kilometres apart, so you can reach both in about half an hour. It's a good plan for a cloudy day or evening. Check ticket prices and opening hours on the facility's website, as they vary depending on time of day and season.
Ski slopes
In winter the nearest is the aforementioned Polana Sosny in Niedzica (approx. 3 km). Czorsztyn-Ski in Kluszkowce on Wdżar is about 15 km from the resort – a versatile station with a chairlift. Larger resorts in Białka Tatrzańska are found around 20 km away.
Further afield, but still a one-day trip (45-55 km)
Zakopane (approx. 45 km, approx. one hour) and the Slovak aquapark Aquacity Poprad (approx. 55 km, approx. one hour) are the most distant reasonable targets for a one-day excursion. Both require an early start, especially in peak season, when the route via Nowy Targ or the border crossing can get busy.
