Lake Czorsztyńskie is an artificial reservoir on the Dunajec River, created after a dam was built at Niedzica (completed July 9, 1997). The cruise also offers a perspective you won't get from land: a panorama of the Pieniny ridge with Trzy Korony (the highest peak, Okrąglica, at 982 m a.s.l.) and Sokolica (747 m a.s.l.) in the background, the water at the foot of the dam, and the shoreline with beaches and docks. It's a peaceful, family-friendly attraction, especially nice on warmer days and with mild weather.
The Harnaś Ship
The main vessel operating on the reservoir is the Harnaś. It operates on the Polish section of the lake, offering both circular sightseeing cruises and a ferry connecting the shores between Niedzica and Czorsztyn. The ship is covered, which is practical when mountain weather changes quickly.
The most popular option is a sightseeing cruise lasting roughly 50 minutes. The ship departs from the dock, makes a loop around the water and returns to the starting point - along the way, you pass both castles, the dam, and panoramic mountain views. This is the option for those who simply want to cruise, take photos, and relax, without planning transfers.
The second option is a shorter ferry between the castles - from the Niedzica area to the Czorsztyn side (or vice versa). This works well if you want to combine a visit to Dunajec Castle in Niedzica with a trip to the Czorsztyn castle ruins on the other side of the reservoir, saving you a long drive around the lake. The direction, frequency, and whether the ferry runs on a particular day are best confirmed on-site or with the operator.
Before the crossing, it helps to know:
- On the other side (Czorsztyn), getting to the castle ruins requires a short climb - plan for extra time.
- Check the time of the last return crossing so you don't get stranded on the opposite shore.
- The number of ferry crossings is often less than sightseeing cruises - in peak season, it's worth arriving with extra time to spare.
Niedzica Dock - Where You Depart
The main dock on the Polish side is located at the foot of Dunajec Castle in Niedzica, about 300 m from the resort by Lake Czorsztyńskie. This is a major advantage of this location: you can walk to the ship without moving your car and searching for parking during the season.

Cruises on Lake Czorsztyńskie are seasonal. Ships operate roughly from May to October (V-X), depending on weather and water levels. Outside the season, and during strong winds or storms, cruises may be suspended.
When to go:
- Peak season (July, August) - most cruises, but also most people; arrive early.
- May, June, and September - smaller crowds, often great light for photos, cool mornings.
- October - fall colors in the Pieniny Mountains, but the schedule may be limited; check if the ship runs that day.
